It has been several years since I have had a chance to camp. Jim and the boys have camped for scouts, Father & Son overnighters with church... We decided to camp overnight last Sunday after church since Jim and I both had Labor Day off of work. It was great! We headed up to Prescott and camped at Lynx Lake. The weather was great. We would have loved to stay in the cooler air longer.
We did quite a few things to help Brian pass of some of his Webelos activities. We went on a 3 mile hike, identified 6 kinds of trees and 6 kinds of plants, Brian helped start a fire, cook a meal on it and clean it up, safely put out the fire, help pitch the tent and sleep in it & figure out how much it would cost us per mile to travel to our destination and back home (which was approximately 11 cents per mile in case you were wondering).
We discovered a lot of neat critters. We saw ant hill the boys thought looked neat. By the way, Jacob took almost all of these pictures, hence he is not in many.
We saw a cute little Horned Lizard on the rocks. It was really small and calm.
There were grasshoppers that were a pretty green color and when you walked by them, they would startle and fly away a short distance. They had huge black wings!
We loved seeing a Blue-Tailed Skink. It was getting some lunch when we saw it. The red bug in it's mouth was some kind of beetle.
Brian found a Crayfish skeleton and pretended to be grossed out by it.
We've had a gold pan for a lot of years and this area had a place marked to pan for gold. One of Jim's coworkers had told him about it. It was a bummer that the water was gone. Jim used some water we had in the car so the boys could experience it, but alas, no flecks of gold.
And we saw one last lizard on a rock right before we left. He was pretty big!
